3 miles (12:35)

Oh, I don’t know. I suspect I would have gone out for a run at some point. It likely would have been early afternoon between, and during, rainstorms. The weather would be cool because of the rain, a welcome relief from the summer’s unrelenting heat. It probably would have been odd to run in the old backup Piranhas, the shoes that were once my best friends, now relegated to emergency backup status. Friends are like that, I suppose. The heart monitor wouldn’t have worked for some reason, leaving me with the choice of running too slowly or too fast, which isn’t really much of a choice at all. I would have taken the same Hasselhoff course I always run, going 3 miles at a 12:35 pace. And, of course, it would start to pour during the last mile. But I would have learned from yesterday and brought a bag for the phone, freeing up the brain to be a kid, celebrating in the puddles. It likely would have felt fine, just another piece in the jigsaw puzzle leading up to a destination I’m unlikely to arrive at. But miles is miles. Of course, this is all purely speculation. We’ll probably never know.
